  • At Penske Truck Leasing as a diesel tech I am responsible for all maintenance and inspections on our units.
  • Anything from smaller vehicles ie Ford Transit 250 and gmc Savannah gas box trucks, to mid size 26 foot freight liner M2s and international MV607, all the way to large scale 45 foot vanhool and MCI buses and full sleeper tractors.
  • I have done countless repairs on all units alike, tires and brakes to ECM, MCM, and TCM DTC fault diagnosis and troubleshooting wiring and communication issues.
  • I am very familiar with a vast array for motors both gas and diesel.
  • At Penske I work on both rental and business lease units and am comfortable with customer face to face involvement.

  • Company Overview: the Kenworth facility manufactures an array of heavy duty trucks. Most widely known for building the best semi-trucks on the road today, the Renton Kenworth plant also provides customers with all options, ranging from the extremely heavy truck and tractors used in moving mammoth oil rigs, to the very unique trucks incorporating specific customer requirements in engine drive-train, as well as all-inclusive sleepers, complete with showers, plasma TVs, etc.
  • Most notably associated with their commercial/ user-operator type semi-trucks, Kenworth manufactures all customer models, ranging from the basic/stable model to the very unique and customized interiors, all through the same lean production line.
  • Maintaining the production tact time is very rigorous; given the production line speed of about 3 feet per minute depending on supply and demand can produce in/around 18-20 trucks/day, depending on customer demand.
  • The necessity for my team to work extremely close and efficient is critical for all elements of quality, efficiency, etc, all in support of customer satisfaction.
  • My final role was working with my team to initialize the process of truck frame buildup.
  • Starting with the bare frames rails, each component is located and indexed for adding the associated details that establish the platform for the truck to take shape; Axles, Brakes, valves, pneumatics, etc.
  • I have a very extensive working knowledge of all tools, processes and functions of the buildup process, always striving to increase my understanding in lean with the key focus for how we can improve our production and quality efficiencies.
  • I am a safety monitor for the frame structures area at Kenworth and part of the safety team for our area.
  • As part of our daily process, we review the work area for opportunities to identify and improve issues supporting ergonomic opportunities that may support process performance in which heavy hand tools are used.
  • Included in our daily sweeps our mission is to identify hazards before they turn into incidents/accidents.
  • If an injury were to occur, I am responsible for contacting medical and communicating through the safety coordinator for safety procedures and injury/incident review, along with ergonomic opportunities.
  • For all accidents / injuries in the structures/frame area we perform an after action review.
  • The review consists of understanding the process/procedures that we conducted that allowed the accident to occur.
  • Understanding each step of what occurred allows the team to determine where a process failed, or wasn't followed.
  • We take safety in the frame/structures area very seriously, always inspecting tools and processes to ensure all are operating as required and that all area employees understand their use and function.
  • In the frame area, I am my team heavy tools are often required for assembly and installation of fasteners.
  • Most often the tools we use are drills, reamers, impact, and torque control drivers.
  • Through the process of buildup my focus is to ensure we are consistently organizing our work area; kitting / kanban for efficiencies through a pull process weighted by priority of first in first used.
