My favorite part of the job is working with the team, every day we are trying to improve and do better than we have before. I am a hardworking and dependable person.
Stand building can play a large role in how successful the mill is. It's important to be aware of what stands they need, when they need them, and what they should be set up for. Communication is very important. Often times, one stand builder is not building an entire section, or the mill will call for a backup, so you need to pass on all the information with your team coming on shift. One thing I try to focus on is helping the mill with changeovers. If I have time, I'll always try to lend a hand. Being familiar with how things work in the mill is important, so if there's anything on our end that needs to be changed to make things better, we can get them done.
Crane tending/ short throwing in Mill 2. My main responsibility is to keep myself, and my team safe. This position involves helping wherever is needed. The day-to-day stuff is helping with change overs in the mill, throwing shorts/ watching for quality defects, assisting the crane operator with stacking products and also operating equipment to stack the products ourselves. I have become proficient with crane operating, helping in the mill, Pulpit 3 operations, and tagging. One of my greatest contributions to the team would be my attention to quality.
Operating pulpit 3 requires full attention and awareness of a large area with a lot of moving parts. It also requires a lot of communication with your team. This pulpit is responsible for cutting product to length and making sure it's ready to stack. It's an area that's very hands-on and fast-paced, and an ideal place to find and watch for quality defects.
While being a utility, I would bounce between both mills, helping wherever someone was needed. I did everything from loading rail cars and throwing strapping to magging pits and changeovers in the mill. I always tried to keep up on scrap cutting and helping finishing where I could, especially while running difficult products.
We take long stock of t-post and we cut to length, spade, paint, and bundle them per customer specification. I have been a part of all aspects of the production process except operating the paint line. For the past couple months I have been the shear operator. As an operator my job is to keep product flowing quickly while maintaining a quality standard. My main responsibilities are to keep myself and all other teammates safe and keep operations running smoothly and efficiently. Our main goals are to be 100% safe and produce quality products for our customers.
CZ ranch is a cow calf operation my main responsibilities were making sure the cows were taken care of. The day to day operations included everything from feeding, watering, bedding, health wellness checks of the cows and calf's to irrigating crops, maintaining equipment, fixing fence, and tillage/planting/harvesting of crops. I also acquired my class A cdl for this job, we would haul all of our own hay and equipment along with slag and other products to customers when things were slow around the ranch. Our main goal was to keep the cows healthy so they would raise the best calves and to achieve this meant we had to do the best with everything we had.
I started working on the dairy when I was really young, I would work during the summers moving wheel lines and irrigating the crops. When I graduated High school I started full time on the dairy. My main responsibilities then were mostly on the farming side of the operation, I would till, plant, irrigate, harvest, haul, and store our crops so they could be used to feed the cattle throughout the year. After a couple years of that I slowly worked my way towards the cow side of it by helping the herdsman at the time take care of the cattle. The herdsman job eventually became available and I was easily able to transition into that position, my main responsibility was taking care of the animals, I would AI, give vaccines, maintain the health of the animals, daily wellness checks on all of them, and weekly pregnancy checks with the veterinarian. My main goals as the herdsman were to have a high reproduction rate along with productive and healthy cattle.
