As a certified nursing assistant, my job requires a lot of attention and focus on the residents in the long-term care as well as the rehab part it is my responsibility to make sure that they are receiving the proper and best care and to also ensure their safety as well. Some of my require me to complete and assist with daily ADLs. ADLs assist daily living where I help residents complete baths, keep their living area as neatly as possible, assist or give minimum assistance with bathing and dressing, or help them transfer to and from the bed when they want to get in and out of the bed and wheelchair. I also assist with helping to keep up with toilet hygiene whether it may be getting to and from the bathroom or bedside commode and cleaning private areas after each use of the bathroom, besides commode and bedpan. Other things that I do as a CNA are complete vital signs and checking for any type of irregular pattern that may not seem normal. If their heart rate and blood pressure are too high or low I would report any signs and concerns to the nurse and use PCC which is pointclick care to chart down everything that was reported to the nurse. Answering call lights promptly is also another important part of being a CNA. Answering call lights for residents that you may not even be caring for that day is still highly important because it could be an emergency. Keeping fresh water and ice is another important task to complete because it will ensure that our residents are hydrated and drink clean and cold fresh water. Before the end of my shift, I make sure that I chart each person that I have completed or assist with daily ADLs. It is important to chart what you have done for the resident and what the resident has done for themselves it will allow the nurses and therapists to stay updated on how much that person can and can't do for themselves. This will allow our residents to work on and practice doing the things that they have issues with to be able to do some of the things that they are used to doing.
