Throughout my entire high school career, I have submerged myself in all different aspects of what high school has to offer. From volunteering with Abilities Awareness and running the Every Fifteen Minutes Program for drunk driving prevention, to participating in three varsity sports my senior year, I am grateful for the opportunities that Amador Valley has given me. It has expanded my knowledge and perspective of how a community flows and becomes productive, while still allowing me the chance to experience the stereotypical high school experience.

Aside from The Abilities Awareness Program, where we expose typical people to what it feels like to have a certain disability and how that effects their ability to complete simple tasks, I had the pleasure of growing up with Torin. He is my little brother, and my best friend. He has born with Down Syndrome, but it has not stopped him from doing what he loves. Every day when we hang out the routine remains the same: iPad in the morning, biking around in the afternoon, get food and repeat. To the typical person, this repetition might seem nauseating, but to Torin it is everything he needs. He has shown me more than he knows, with his resilience to stay within familiarity and his ability to reason with me and be a shoulder to lean on when I am upset. Without him and the experiences we share together, I would not be the man I am today without him.
