Work History

Assistant Project Scientist

University Of California, Los Angeles
09.2022 - Current
  • Identified a well studied nuclear lincRNA can export to the cytoplasm and encode small peptides in developing neurons and plays an important role in neuron development/maturation (Submitted to Nature).
  • Validated the expression of Xist dampening gene by smFISH in collaboration of Kathrin Plath lab at UCLA (Cell, 2024).
  • Characterization of some germline specific gene expression by Tissue FISH in C. elegans. in collaboration with Patrick Allard lab at UCLA (Cell reports, 2023).

Postdoctoral Research Scholar

University Of California, Los Angeles
11.2018 - 07.2022
  • Developed a high-efficient and cost-effective FISH probe labeling method to investigate the spatial interactions between retained introns of mRNA and subcellular compartments in single cell (RNA, 2023).
  • Identified developmental gene regulation through intron retention and nuclear anchoring in fractionated compartments in collaboration with my colleague (Genome research, 2021).
  • Established primary neuron isolation and culture system for analyzing neural maturation and development.
  • Established a protocol to efficiently differentiate mouse embryonic cells toward Motor or Glutamatergic neurons.

Research Assistant

University Of Chinese Academy Of Sciences
08.2016 - 10.2017
  • Identified entacapone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, as an inhibitor of a m6A demethylase-FTO ( Sci. Transl. Med., 2019).

Ph.D. Student

University Of Chinese Academy Of Sciences
09.2010 - 07.2016
  • Characterized a m6A reader protein YTHDC1 in regulation of alternative splicing of mRNA in mammalian cell (Mol. Cell, 2016).
  • Identified WTAP as a regulatory subunit of m6A methyl-transferase in regulation of m6A formation for mRNA (Cell Res., 2014).
  • Identified entacapone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, as an inhibitor of a m6A demethylase-FTO (Sci. Transl. Med., 2019).
