Aaron Smith

I’m a sworn police officer at a medium size metropolitan police department in South West Florida. Currently serving in a specialized capacity focusing on violent crime investigations, as well as preventing future crime through intelligence-based policing. Due to this assignment, I have been deputized by the local Sheriffs department to expand the jurisdiction of my investigations. Due to this, I have worked extensively with the counties Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF). I have also had the ability to work hand in hand with additional agencies such as Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Homeland Security Investigations (HIS), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Alcohol Tabaco and Firearms (ATF). Through the course of my investigations, I have seized dozens of vehicles, over two dozen firearms and over ten thousand dollars cash. During these investigations, I’ve worked in an undercover capacity, case agent, cover team and surveillance unit. To highlight the effectiveness of my work, I have well over a dozen narcotics trafficking arrests. While recently working with HSI, I assisted with the seizure of fifty kilograms of methamphetamine's that was trafficked from California, as well as the arrest of the trafficker. During the course of my investigations, I have become proficient in an array of search warrants. I have composed dozens of cell phone, residential, iCloud, social media and ping search warrants.

To assist with my investigations, I have attended over 1000 hours of training. The core of my training is centered around narcotics with highlights in drug identification of drugs, narcotics trafficking and interdictions. Due to my current assignment, I have also received extensive training in surveillance, pattern of life identification, and identifying the purchase of precursor chemicals used in local drug laboratory. Due to the deployments with HSI, and DEA, I have also attended classes on narco-terrorism, and transnational criminal organizations. In addition to my instruction that I have obtained regarding my assignment, I have also took it upon myself to further my academic career. I currently have an Associates degree in criminal justice from Saint Petersburg College. I am continuing to better myself by working towards my bachelor’s degree in management and organizational leadership in business, also through Saint Petersburg College.
