I have achieved a dream that less than 2% of all high school athletes achieve. I am currently an NCAA DII softball player. This privilege has been earned through the values of work ethic, perseverance, leadership, and most importantly self-discipline. My work ethic pushed me to spend extra time in the weight room to increase my physical strength and agility. Being a student athlete has developed a perseverance in me that the sport of softball has specifically required. Perseverance has allowed me to push through a nagging injury, coaching criticism, and losses. The greatest compliment I have ever received is from a coach. He called me a “great leader who elevated the play of everyone else around me”. The most important attribute to me has been self discipline—giving up free time and even social events. I have had to make tough decisions in balancing sports with the rest of my life. This has helped me grow in terms of understanding priorities and managing the balance between passion and other responsibilities. Ultimately, being a student athlete has taught me more than just competition—it’s about teamwork, growing, and the importance of consistent effort. Throughout this experience I have maintained a 3.9 GPA.
