Abby L Dufner RN

Newberry,FL

Summary

I began my career in Bone Marrow Transplantion. I was in this position for 1 year until the birth of my son. For 1.5 years I was the Chemotherapy infusion nurse for an inpatient Med Surg Oncology unit. I relocated to Florida to begin working at Shands UF on unit 55. When on unit 55, I was the Charge RN, Preceptor, and Mentored students. I remained on this unit for a little over a year at which time my nurse manager requested that I transfer to a new IMC / Cardiac step-down unit that he was opening. While on Unit 24, I became the IV expert, using traditional and ultrasound technology. I precepted many new nurses, participated in the education committee, was the Magnet designation champion and at two points the interim clinical leader. In 2015 I found the need to be home more with my family. I began nursing at Vista in July 2015, with a primary focus on adolescents and acute psychosis. As well as being a staff nurse, I frequently assumed the responsibility of shift clinical coordinator for the hospital. Duties which included, staffing, resolution of patient/staff complaints and response to all medical and psychiatric codes. In May 2019 I began working at Shands Endoscopy in both the endoscopy focus and motility. During this time I became proficient in pre op preparation, OR circulation and recovery of patients in PACU from anesthesia. Motility studies include Esophageal and Anorectal Manometry, BRAVO, 24 hour pH and impedance monitoring and Smart Pill administration. With the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic I decided to move to the Medical Intensive Care Unit to further my professional development and broaden my clinical skills.
