Working as a computer system technician for Phone and Pad Warehouse, we provide a unique service to Florida school districts, which include Broward School District and Palm Beach School District, with traditional technical support in specific fields that support education. It is a public service role that is equal parts challenging and rewarding.
As a System Technician, I'm on the front line of technology support. The role is highly varied and goes beyond simply fixing computers. Key duties include:
End-User Support: Providing direct technical assistance to teachers, administrators, and students. This includes troubleshooting hardware (laptops, desktops, interactive whiteboards, projectors, and operating systems).
Device Management: Deploying, configuring, and maintaining a massive fleet of student and staff devices, typically Chromebooks or Windows laptops, often using the Google enrollment system.
Network and Connectivity: Supporting the school's network infrastructure, including installing upgrades and new network switches, fiber cables, and Wi-Fi access points, ensuring stable internet connectivity for hundreds of simultaneous users, and troubleshooting connectivity issues in classrooms and offices.
Audiovisual (AV) Support: Setting up and troubleshooting classroom technology, like smart boards, audio systems, and cameras, which are critical for modern instruction.
The primary reward is knowing your work directly supports education, and empowers students and teachers. Fixing a projector allows a science lesson to proceed, and setting up a laptop helps a student complete their project. The impact is tangible.
Receiving Orders: Receive orders through various channels—email, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), online portals, phone, or fax, and process customer orders using inventory management systems.
Meticulously enter all order details into the company's ERP, or order management system. This includes customer information and shipping address, product SKU numbers, quantities ordered, agreed-upon pricing, and discounts.
Accuracy Check: Double-check for errors in product codes, quantities, and pricing to prevent costly shipping mistakes, or billing disputes.
Computer Hardware Technician: Serve as a sole desktop computer technician.
