Anatomy and Physiology- 1st Semester- University of New Mexico- Clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy-Course emphasized the musculoskeletal system. Identifying over 600 muscles and all bones in the human body. Naming muscle attachments, actions, and nerve innervation was vital. Learned body landmarks. Learned pedagogic techniques to improve the learning speed of large volumes of material.
Anatomy and Physiology- 2nd Semester- University of New Mexico- Clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy-Course emphasized the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as the endocrine, gastrointestinal, and cardiopulmonary systems. Included a dissection lab, practical identification exams, and written critical thinking/theory-based exams.
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy- University of New Mexico- Clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy- Learned clinical screening methods to detect cardiopulmonary abnormalities. Learned to read electrocardiograms to identify the different types of abnormal/normal cardiac rhythms. Learned the etiology of different cardiopulmonary conditions and differential diagnosis methods.
Pharmacology- University of New Mexico- Clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy- Learned how common muscle relaxants, nerve blocks, coagulants, anti-coagulants, beta-blockers, and osteoporosis medications among other types of medications, affect the ability of the patient to participate in physical therapy sessions. Learned medication nomenclature and to deduce the use of medication based on word components.
Professional Patient Management- University of New Mexico- Clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy- Learned the 16 personal identifiers and used interactive exercises to practice preventing a personal information breach. Learned the federal and state-level regulations on professional behavior and practices. Learned the principles of professional behavior in clinical settings, such as trust, mutual respect, and cultural humility.
Anatomy and Physiology I and II- University of Arizona- Bachelor of Science in Public Health- Learned the basics of anatomy and physiology, such as osteology, histology, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, and nervous system’s overview.
Exercise Physiology- University of Arizona- Bachelor of Science in Public Health- Covered the core concepts of energy expenditure, muscle hypertrophy, and anaerobic/aerobic metabolic responses.
Medical Terminology- University of Arizona- Bachelor of Science in Public Health- Identified and memorized most common suffixes, prefixes, and word-roots of Greek and Latin origin. Learned to deduce the meaning of newly encountered words based on the meaning of word components.
Medical Interpretation F.A.C.E.S CONVERSANTES- University of Arizona- Bachelor of Science in Public Health- Introduced to appropriate medical interpreting practices, such as monitoring one’s intonation, pronunciation, accent, and rhythm. Learned to avoid suboptimal practices such as addition, omission, paraphrasing, and literalism.
