- Working within the OR we are exposed dirty instruments in which we have to properly collect and dispose of them.
- After the collection of Dirty instruments we transport all and any dirty instruments to the sterile department for proper disinfection protocols.
- We are also in charge of following proper sterilization protocols of any other equipment within the operating room to ensure the safety of other patients and staff.
- Updates bored and finalizes any last information needed for the closing and opening of any operating room.
- Restocking is a big part of my specialty to ensure all rooms and work stations within the OR are completely restocked with gloves, masks, and other proper equipment needed for a functional OR room.
- I help assist nurses with any tasks they may need.
- If a patient needs to be moved or adjusted I am the first to assist the nurses and doctors moving the patient.
- Familiar with the decontamination and sterilization process of surgical instruments.

- Even though I'm experienced within the sterilization department I also work within the decontamination side of the process.
- After receiving dirty trays holding many types of dirty instruments I remove each and every instrument from one another and place them into holding.
- From there I follow the proper cleaning protocols using a multistep process that begins with a physical cleanse of the OR Instruments removing any blood, bone, or tissue from their surfaces. We do this using brushes and solutions.
- We cleanse instruments at first using water detergents enzymatic, neutral washing techniques.
- From there we send the OR instruments into Washing machines that cleanse them using high pressure and certain chemicals that cleanse each instrument.
- I sanitize all equipment that came into contact with the contaminated instruments in the OR.
- After the cleaning, I wrap the instruments and begin to follow the proper protocols to begin the sterilization process to kill all microorganisms.
- After completed I set all equipment in the picking room ready for use in the next procedure.
