- Maintenance & Repair Inspections: Conduct routine and annual inspections on all permanently issued and specialized police firearms to check for wear, damage, or malfunction.
- Servicing: Disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble weapons to manufacturer specifications.
- Repairs: Perform armorer-level repairs and gunsmithing tasks on pistols, shotguns, rifles, and specialty equipment.
- Testing: Test fire weapons to ensure reliability and accuracy, and occasionally use proof loads to determine structural strength.
- Inventory & Asset Management Inventory Control: Maintain strict, perpetual tracking of all department-owned weapons, parts, chemical agents, and safety gear.
- Supply Chain: Requisition, receive, and store ammunition, gun-cleaning solvents, and targets to ensure officers have what they need for duty and training.
- Issuance: Issue and receive weapons to sworn personnel, including managing loaner pistols when primary firearms are in for service.
- Compliance & Record Keeping Documentation: Maintain accurate, highly detailed logs of weapon maintenance histories, assignments, and firearm movements.
- Policy Enforcement: Enforce department guidelines regarding which specific models and ammunition are approved for duty use.
- Post-Incident Analysis: Inspect, test, and securely handle weapons involved in officer-involved shootings (OIS) or other use-of-force investigations.
- Training & Support Advising: Act as a liaison with rangemasters to integrate new firearms and equipment into department training programs.
- Equipment Prep: Ensure tactical teams (like SWAT) have specialized equipment ready at a moment's notice.
