Assortment of academic, military, and physical responsibilities in preparation to commission as an officer in 2027. Have conducted summer trainings which include manning a Yard Patrol Craft up to New York City for Fleet Week; spent a week with each of the communities: Surface Warfare, Submarines, Aviation, and the Marine Corps; and a Submarine Cruise(two weeks aboard the USS Iowa).

Learned and executed the process of isolating total exosomes (TEVs) from blood plasma, isolating the neuronal fraction of exosomes (NEVs) from TEVs, measuring the concentration and size of both TEVs and NEVs, performing protein concentration assay (BCA) with a following western blot to analyze the expression of bio markers of interest, and understanding how these techniques relate to projects and upcoming clinical trials. For example, one project will involve comparing concentration levels of exosomes before and after sleep deprivation in normal participants vs participants with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).

Shadowed Dr. Nathan Mowery, MD & Trauma Surgeon, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. I shadowed and observed colon & rectal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, pediatric surgery, and laparoscopic surgery. Shadowed for a night shift at a Level 1 trauma center and witnessed incoming patients from triage to treatment. Shadowed Dr. Mowery as he completed rounds in the ICU; evaluating patients and prescribing further treatment.
