Hardin County Courthouse, Hardin County Teen Court Member, 150 North Provident Way, Elizabethtown, KY, 42701, 2016-12-01, 2018-04-26, Coordinator: Judge Kimberly Shumate (270)766-5004, Hours – Part-time (Student) 4 hours per week, Duties: Worked with Circuit Court Judge, local attorneys, and student members to develop constructive sentencing for teen legal offenders ages 13-17. Maintained record of accusations against students and performed legal research to determine appropriate sentencing. Using knowledge of Kentucky State court rules and Teen Court Program policies, verbally defined and explained sentencing decision to Circuit Judge in a courtroom setting to include parents of accused teens, local prosecution licensed lawyer-mentors, and peers. Explored various community and social supports available to offender to support goals set by the sentencing decision for health and well-being of the student offender and community as a whole. Explored usage of the supports with offender, parent, and Circuit Court Judge to determine suitability for each individual situation.
