  • Worked with a partner to do a research study about water pollution in Baja California, Mexico.
  • Created and shared surveys to over 200 participants to obtain data on public awareness, causes, and the consequences of water pollution.
  • Redacted a 40-page research document following proper investigation structure to convey the results of the investigation and possible solutions to the problem.
  • Analyzed results from surveys to come up with solutions that can be implemented by the citizens and government officials.

Research and Experiment: Phytoremediation Using Tule Plants

High School Team Project, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, 2021.

  • Created a research project on phytoremediation, focusing on one of the many uses of the tule plant, to purify water.
  • Investigated about phytoremediation strategies and how plants can absorb contaminants and degrade them.
  • Designed and built a physical model to prove this theory using a plastic box, rocks, a filter tube, sawdust, dirt, water, and the tule plant to stimulate water purification.
  • Measured the pH levels of water throughout the days to notice any changes in the water purification and confirm the credibility of the project.
  • Contributed to environmental education to other high school students in the annual Science Fair by giving several presentations to different groups of students and informing them about how they can use this method to purify and recycle water.

  • Collaborated with a team of four to conduct in depth research about the causes, consequences, and challenges of menopause among women in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico.
  • Conducted surveys to over 500 women to gather insights, revealing an incredible lack of awareness about menopause and its impact.
  • Authored and presented results at the annual science fair, earning 1st place for academic excellence in research, education, and impact.
  • Designed an informative poster representing key characteristics and information on menopause to communicate complex information and inform others.
  • Produced an educational video to raise awareness to the public about menopause. This video was approved for screening at a major public hospital in the city and information included what menopause is, why it happens, and what are the consequences that it can have on women.
  • This project had a huge impact in educating both high school students and adults. It also helped older women to have a better understanding of what they were going through and how to cope with the symptoms that menopause can bring.
