Since I started working, I have been able to develop many skills which make me desirable in the job market. Walmart taught me how to interact with customers. Colectivo Coffee taught me how to create warm, welcoming environments. The surf program has taught me how to be independent and self motivated. With these skills and more, I am confident I am able to adapt in any work environment I am placed in.
As an associate at Walmart, I worked in the online grocery department. My responsibilities included making sure customers received their groceries in a timely manner as well as giving them an excellent customer experience. At Walmart, I was able to develop my customer service and quality control skills.
Starting as a cafe staff, I moved up to the position of kitchen trainer by showing proficiency with organization, training, and leadership skills. As the kitchen trainer, I was primarily in charge of making sure new hires learn the ropes of working in a kitchen. Along with training, it was my responsibility to make sure new hires were comfortable by creating a welcoming environment in the kitchen. During my four years at Colectivo, I developed skills in professional communication, time management, and stress management.
I work in Dr Harvey Bootsma’s Lab conducting research on ecosystem dynamics. In the lab, I demonstrate self motivation, project development skills, and a proactive work style. Work at the lab is independent, this means I have great self determination skills and I am able to stay on task unsupervised while meeting my deadlines.
