Alexandria C. Suarez

In this role as a care partner, I collaborate with registered nurses, licensed mental health professionals, and screeners in our unit to provide behavioral health care to admitted young, middle aged, and geriatric patients suffering from a range of mental illnesses with different severities. My scope of work includes therapeutic interventions, assisting and facilitating unit support activities, treatments, the transfer of patients to and from our unit, and ensuring the safety of our patients and staff. I currently hold a per-diem position in this role.

• In this position, I curated graphic & written content in different forms for each of the organization’s social media platforms. My role's objective was to transform sensitive and specific information into digestible content for individuals of any audience. I worked on a broad scale of content that focused on our campaigns against animals used for food, entertainment, experimentation, & clothing. I also managed the publication schedules of two platforms (Twitter & Threads). I was also on-call for a week at a time every several weeks—during which I was the point person for all social media content requests from all departments after hours.

• As the New Hope Coordinator for ACC’s New Hope Program which seeks to find homes for animals enduring the worst medical and behavioral cases, I prioritized animals for placement, prepared, & organized the necessary paperwork to be sent with placed animals including health certificates for interstate travel. I also managed a multiline, high volume email as well as phone communication system, conducted daily rounds around the care center, interacted with, provided enrichment for, and handled animals in order to better know who their ideal candidates for placement are. I also built and nurtured relationships with New Hope Partner organizations & companies to expand our network.

• I created a humane education curriculum which I proposed to the superintendent of schools in my town for implementation into our schools starting from Grade 7 to high school.

• Within this internship, I curated ideas for the social media platforms that expose various audiences to the cause that Best Friends fights for. This included monitoring, suggesting publication ideas & making plans for the CEO as well as the organization’s general publications, expanding its audience, and keeping my department abreast of strategies to utilize that helped keep us effectively a part of important conversations on social media.

• As an intern for this marketing company, the CEO, one of my mentors in my CAALE leadership program, assigned me with different tasks for their several clients, through which I learned about the company’s mission and their approach to marketing. I participated in careful curation of marketing practices that best fit each client on a daily basis, using a number of platforms for graphics and text, post scheduling such as Canva, Microsoft word, Google docs, Pinterest, Instagram, etc. This opportunity gave me great insight as to what goes into creating a brand image and how to consistently enhance it.

• I contributed to this beautiful initiative as a narrator for the organization, which focuses on exposing audiences to professional written work by individuals who aside from being writers, happen to have a range of disabilities. I narrate their pieces, to make the platform’s mission more accessible and to bring another possible outlet of delivery for the particular stories that I work on.

• My initial position was in customer service, tending to a broad range of customer’s needs as well as working closely with general management to maintain and oversee numerous tasks from counting each register, speaking with sponsors, managing cashiers and helping employees in other departments. After a few months in this position, I was recommended for and promoted to pharmacy technician by management.

• I hosted a workshop around a curriculum I specifically created for the group of students of Project DALE, based out of my passion and experience throughout my adolescence in the professional performing arts. Project DALE is an arts program in my community. My workshop was centered around the concept of 'Purpose,' included exercises during my time with the students, as well as homework assignments for them.

• I published an article regarding the importance of practicing public speaking; covering the need for more comfort and confidence needed by those who are speaking in order to convey a message, to ensure comprehension, reaction and proactivity from their audience, including exercises to prepare speakers ranging from basic to intermediate range.

• For most of my childhood & adolescence, I was a full time professional performing artist. I starred as Backpack on Dora the Explorer (animated Nickelodeon series), its spin-off Dora & Friends, originated the role of Little Gloria in On Your Feet- The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan Broadway show, several radio & television commercials, theater productions, podcasts, etc.

• I participated at UNICEF’s 70TH Anniversary event as a speaker, translating the story of an established lawyer and painter whose life story, marked by a tragic landmine accident resulting in the loss of each of his limbs, did not stop him from pursuing and achieving his dreams. I advocated for the continuous support of UNICEF’s efforts and tangible work that impacts the lives of children around the globe, especially in countries that are marked by wars and poverty.

• My participation in Broadway Barks’ 2016 Adoption Event included telling the individual stories of a number of pets up for adoption and taking care of them throughout the day; making sure that I was there to answer any questions and or concerns of potential owners to reassure them that caring for one of our animals was a great decision.
