Volunteering

Guiding Eyes for the Blind:

  • Puppy raiser for GEB for puppies 16 weeks to 18 months. Responsibilities include training and socializing dogs in a wide range of experiences to prepare them to be a guide dog. Regional trainer for weekly puppy classes that aid raisers in successfully training their puppies. Currently raising third puppy.

SPCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County 

  • Volunteered at the SPCA walking lilac level dogs once a week. Lilac level dogs are dogs with slight behavioral issues.

Cortland 4-H:

  • Volunteering with a 4-H group working with kids ages five to eighteen and teaching them life skills which include: cooking, baking, sewing, animal behavior, and assisting them in a yearly community service outreach.

Dryden High School:

  • Taught swim lessons to elementary age kids through a volunteer program at my high school.

Shadowing

  • In the life sciences New Visions program I got the opportunity to shadow different veterinarians. I shadowed veterinarians at Cornell Veterinary Hospital in the fields of: neurology, opthalmology, large animal, small animal, cardiology, pharmacy, and the ferrier. I also shadowed the veterinarians at Adana Pet Hospital as well as a veterinarian at the Animal Adventure Park in Binghamton.
