As an Emergency Department Assistant I had many different roles as followed.
- Handled incoming calls and directed callers to appropriate department or employee.
- Offered reception coverage to relieve staff during absences or breaks.
- Answered phones and routed voicemails to respective employees.
- Scheduled service and changed and ordered toner to keep printers and copiers functioning.
- Reserved and managed meeting room availability.
- Measured vital signs and took medical histories to prepare patients for examination.
- Relayed messages from patients to physicians about concerns, condition updates or refill requests to facilitate treatment.
- Organized charts, documents and supplies to maintain team productivity.
- Incorporated outside records into charts and EHR.
- Labeled and completed lab requisitions using ICD and CPT coding.

- Labeled blood vials with critical information like time of collection, date and patient name.
- Obtained variety of blood samples through venipuncture or capillary puncture using syringes, butterfly needles and straight needles.
- Counseled patients to ease fears, explain procedures and enhance cooperation during blood draws.
- Enforced infection control and sharps disposal procedures to protect patients, co-workers and self.
- Collected specimen samples and transported to laboratory for processing.
- Identified best veins for intravenous lines and blood draws, avoiding unnecessary pokes.
- Interacted with patients to gather and record data prior to blood draws.
- Used heel and finger stick methods to obtain blood from capillaries.
- Coordinated workflow based on stat, schedule, or outpatient needs.
- Input medical and insurance information into database for inclusion in patient records.
- Assessed donor vital signs during and after procedures to check for fatigue or dizziness.
