Through years of coaching and player development I have seen that the true value of team sport is not in the game itself, its the way a player learns to set goals, work hard, be a good team member and see how achieving a team goal is perhaps more satisfying than a personal one. By building an environment that is safe, comfortable and non judgmental even while holding players accountable, a coach can change a players personal confidence and self image for the better. I have coached teams to a state C title and runner up finish, a state B team to 5th place and a state A team to a seventh place finish. What's more satisfying though are those players who come back years down the road and thank you for making a difference in their lives. Fourteen of my players have either played or are playing in college, four are coaching themselves, but its the ones who never started a game but never gave up, the ones that were a little too slow or a bit less athletic that let you know that your belief in them kept them playing, those are the ones I do this for....
