Research Project For: History Methods and Practices: Slavery on Long Island: A Comparison, This paper adds to the small list of scholarship on Slavery on Long Island, to fully understand slavery as a whole in the United States, as well as differentiate slavery on the Island from the Dutch-controlled Hudson Valley. Race exists as a social construct on Long Island to be used as oppression; however, that isn’t really present in the Hudson Valley, as they were not treated as poorly. Their agriculture and way of life are different due to their land; the terrain of the plains, and the hills.
Research Project For: Environmental History of the Middle East: Western Perception of Palestine and Its Environment Through the Lens of Jaffa Oranges, Overall, the environment of Palestine is a rich, diverse region that was not changed or improved by Zionists, and that idea is purely propaganda. The Nakba, the ongoing displacement of Palestinians, negatively affected the Jaffa orange groves and the growers. Forest reports, educational reports from New York City, and propaganda posters all display that the reason for this perception is the political and colonial motives of the Zionists and the British, who sent them there after World War II. Thus, the richness of the Palestinian environment was overshadowed by a narrative to control its land and resources, and this perspective is still present today.
Research Project For: Political Upheaval in the 60s: 1960s Rock 'n' Roll, Overall, rock ‘n’ roll in the 1960s was an immensely influential period whose impact is still felt today in music and American culture in general. From British bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to American artists like Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys, their sound is still used as inspiration for bands today. The political statements made in music in this decade, especially about the Vietnam War, were indicative of the decade as a whole, with the American population, specifically young people, using their voices to enact effective change, whether that is Civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights, or anti-war sentiment. Music was a way to bring people together.
