Advocacy efforts:
Here is an extensive list of all our conservation efforts.
All done as concerned tribal members also descendant of Sacagawea I Alysia & Cheif Joseph Elke both Warm Springs, Wasco.
More importantly as genuine concerned parents for our future generations first food's treaty rights. Together we've been very instrumental with a win in accomplishment of raising awareness.
Using our outfit Littleleaf Guides so people could identify who we are.
01) Nestle trying to privatize Oxbow spring 2015 (WIN) Littleleafs just finished up a salmon fly hatch, to find out a Warm Springs women was fasting in Cascade Locks to raise awareness about a foreign company Nestle was trying to bottle up our vital Oxbow springs that is so needed in the Columbia river gorge. Did the company care about our treaty rights or know about them?
The Littleleafs brain dead & physically mentally drained went to rally for 07 days driving to Cascade Locks everyday to help create awareness.
To have to work in solidarity with like minded people & nonprofit organizations. Such as Bark, the Columbia riverkeeper to name a few. Made petitions for both non tribal members & tribal members to sign. The Tribal council members at that time were who support this & spoke in opposition. Kassuse Jackson Carlos Smith Orvie Danzuka Littleleaf spoke against Nestle at the largest native rally protest at the state capitol. Alongside chief Wilbur Slockish few elders that knew our treaty rights were being infringed upon. Delivered thousands of signatures in opposition of the privatization of our Oxbow Springs. (WIN)
02) Littleleafs went to oppose. The North Dakota access pipeline AKA NODAPL. Only the largest movement to date WATER IS LIFE 08-2016 with our canoe family names NCHIWANNPUM Again Littleleafs went back down to South Dakota in 12-2016 to go with the veterans that marched opposed unlawful force against peaceful water protectors.
- 03) Came back home to only realize all this crude oil & coal is all the way from ND &SD is being transferred via railway on our very own precious Columbia river gorge & the mighty Deschutes River DAILY! Again we had to make a stance in our own territory. No Oil transferred via railway in blast zones the is river, Columbia River Gorge, the Descartes River, Portland OR /WA.Fast forward to the derailment in Mosier. That had to happen for someone to listen to us, on the major threat we face Elke was a former derailment technician turned in at the BNSF railway. For faulty railway conditions, due to negligence on track maintenance agreement with our tribes. All bends on tribal side reinforced concrete ties now all the way to the Columbia River.
- Working with safety coordinator Dan Martinez he was the only who reached out. Explained he had no clue the lingo Elke was speaking, but he believed him. All of us went out to the river to document all the neglected ties etc.
- BNSF fixed all in our section & have been maintaining it all.
- 04) Worked with Columbia riverkeeper to oppose the No Tesoro savage oil terminal in Vancouver WA 2016-17 (WIN)No Coal transferred via railway Seattle WA, Columbia river gorge 2016-2017Few tribal members Susan Gerrin /Joann Smith my aunt. Delson Suppah SR Tribal council members who supported & spoke in opposition Orvie Danzuka, Carlos Smith spoke in opposition as well.(Win)
- 05) All on our own went into Tribal council chambers and attended the meeting regarding.
- The Natural gas pipeline that went through a few name changes Palamorto trial west. Our Confederated tribes of WS tabled it 2014 resurfaced 2017 to no market for it anymore supposedly.
- This Pipeline would have underneath the Deschutes River, out and around our now dip net area called Shears falls. In drought conditions and very pressured species salmon, steelhead that are almost on the endangered list. (WIN)
- 06) The Governor of Oregon Kate Brown asked Littleleaf personally to speak in opposition of the Offshore drilling on the Oregon coast. Spoke at the Oregon state capital opposing NO OFFSHORE DRILLINGAGIAINST DONALD TRUMPS OIL DRILLING ON PNW COAST 2018The governor knew our stance as first people how we could be affected.(WIN)
- 07) Panelist with other concerned tribal members in opposition of the Klamath dam. Hosted by Gary Lewis of frontier unlimited.
- 08)January 2018 Lobbying with our state capital representative's Ken, Helms, Daniel,Bonham, Senator Bentz, for cap on emissions & energy bill for greener cleaner Oregon with former tribal council woman Carina, Miller February 2018.
- 09) 2019-2020-2021-2022 Pandemic hit knocked all of any work down, so we did a series of podcasts, written articles for magazine's & zoom meetings to transition with the pandemic to raise awareness.
- 10) The Columbia riverkeeper had a zoom meeting. Again Littleleaf's was invited to be panelist to oppose the GTN EXPRESS PIPELINE That natural gas pipeline would begin east Bend through John day river. An unnecessary expansion with Senator Merkley hosted by the Columbia river keeper. In this zoom meeting was also general manager of BNR Robert Burneo.Who chimed in & I'll quote his words. When he heard us mention all the suffering on the Deschutes River from forest fires how it changed the river. Where fish lay how drought conditions affect all the above. Robert Bureno said the BNR should have funds allocated for restoration projects you are trying to do. Reach out and will work this out, was that just in front of state officials to hear only?Henceforth the wild crazy predicament my outfit went through for a restoration project at Moody riffle almost win, but not February 2023.
- 11) The Littleleaf's was invited to attend Oregon's water watch meeting at C.O.C.C. Where we made sure our stance was known and concerns we're voiced at that time. Robert Burneo was in that meeting as well, making a stance for water as treaty rights as well. It is an honor to be like as one official TC members. That's why I feel it is crucial to be in solidarity as concerned members of our community.
12) None of these things were taught in western school nor by society rather the inequality and injustice for our people. Why are we fighting so hard to be heard to be seen to be validated? All knows the treaties are never honored it is time to make change from the root of it all. Time to put faces in places they try to keep us out of time to fill up spaces. Women of color i hate even saying those colonized words but for you to get me i had to take it there I had to say it. All women belong in office in leadership positions to show the younger generation tp empower them to show them we can make anyhing possible all it takes is team work understanding our assignment get the job done as one in solidarity.
