As a first-generation college student, I diligently pursued my goal of becoming a scientist, working through community college to earn a master’s degree in biomedical sciences. During my undergraduate studies, I interned at healthcare facilities to gain practical experience in patient care and laboratory work. I secured an internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Radiology Reading Room, allowing me to advance in different positions, including collaborating with a cancer clinical project. This fueled my passion for biomedical science leading me to pursue studies at Drexel University College of Medicine to earn a master’s degree in microbiology and Immunology.
VOLUNTEER SERVICE: SLAM, 2024
Volunteered at (SLAM), Science Leadership Academic Middle School (HSB)
Engaged with middle school students and motivated them to learn about healthcare, focused on good and bad bacteria in the gut microbiome. They learned different types of bacteria based on size and shape. I demonstrated to the students how to grow bacteria on Petri dishes and then viewed the plates after incubation. They learned that bacteria are everywhere and healthy habits such as washing hands and using hand sanitizers are important.
