- I could come up with some creative bullet points to make my time as a Stay at Home Mom (SAHM) sound professional level but instead I will just say these were some of the best years of my life. I truly learned what I was made of and who I am in the Lord. My husband was in the Army and our country was at war so I wanted to be with my kids and be available for them at any moment because when you work for the Army, you do not get a lot of time off and you do not get to take a day when a kid is sick or a kid has an appointment.
- I never wanted to homeschool but the Lord really pushed me to it. After rejecting his nudge for about a year, I gave in and went for it. Even though I was walking in his will and doing what I knew I should do, it was hard. I expected quiet & obedient kids and got something else. It took a while to find a balance of wearing the mom hat and the teacher hat, but we did find our rhythm and we made it work. It turned out to be good as we moved from California to New Mexico and back to Texas, eventually. Homeschooling showed me I really liked teaching and found it to be rewarding.
- While being a SAHM, my husband did 2 deployments. I had to manage our home, our kids, and all the things that came with that. If things went sideways, I was in charge and had to fix it. This was a big time for me learning to lean into the Lord and realizing I had some serious control issues and the Lord began to work in my life, helping me to let go of that control and learn to trust him in all things. I never realized I struggled with control my whole life but when he revealed this to me, it wrecked me and I began to give everything into His hands.
- Also, during our deployment I was the Family Readiness Group (FRG) Leader. A job that meant I was to disperse news of my husband's company out to the wives, or family members, who also had family in Iraq or Afghanistan with him. We would also get together to boost morale while the company was gone and I had to help coordinate and plan these events.
- Our move back to Texas, also brought news of unexpected twins! I was still homeschooling a Kindergartner and a 2nd grader. This felt like a major disruption to the calm and peace of our home. I wanted to be done at 2 kids and the Lord gave us 2 more. He definitely continued my lesson in control. We did welcome our twins in 2014 and they have been such a blessing to our home.
- I continued to homeschool through the twins' Kinder year, but as changes happen, I needed a job that paid in more than hugs and kisses. I desperately tried to hold homeschooling and being at home with a very tight fist. The Lord was beyond gracious in bringing me a part-time position with MDO and allowing me to still homeschool and be with my kids. Rush attended OCS and Aurora followed him in Middle School, coming to OCS. Then, I was able to fill a full time position when a PK4 slot opened up. God was so good! I still got to see my kids every day and we came to school/work together and went home together every day. What a blessing!
