John Hopkins Genetic Counseling Assistant Training Program (June 2025 - August 2025)

  • Completed two courses:

     - Fundamentals of Clinical Genetics: This course provided the fundamental background and tools of genetics that are utilized by a genetic assistant when working in a laboratory or clinic. Topics included an overview of the genetic contribution to healthcare past and present, cell biology and genetics, genetic testing technology and application, and clinical genetic services. The course wrapped with a discussion of the pop culture and ethical considerations inherent to genetic and genomics.

    - Working as a Genetic Assistant: This course applied the concepts from Fundamentals of Clinical Genomics to the duties of the genetic assistant. The course material walked the through a typical patient case, starting with the patient visit, then transitioning to pre-test coordination, sample submission, laboratory processes and regulations, and post-test follow-up.

 

University of South Carolina Genetic Counseling Course

  • Genetic Counseling: Career for the Future: Overview of the genetic counseling profession, exploring counselor roles, ethical issues, current topics and patient perspectives. Preparation for graduate education in genetic counseling.
