The Resource Nurse partners with the Clinical Nurse Manager to oversee nursing operations for the department, consisting of 10 RNs and 4 LNAs. The role of the RRN includes 20 hours of admin time and 20 hours of patient care. The roles and responsibilities of the RRN role include the following:

Ensuring smooth, efficient clinic operations by:

• Ensuring efficient allocation of staff each day.
• Ensuring all clinical assignments are appropriate for the individual skill level of each RN.
• Ensuring correct and proficient use of medical equipment and supplies.
• Ensuring correct, efficient, and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
• Provides support and education to all clinical and non-clinical staff, as needed.

Ensuring quality patient care by:

• Precepting, educating, and mentoring all nursing staff.
• Ensures all organizational policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Communicates changes to policies and procedures as needed.
• Ensures all required organizational/facility competencies are completed and documented yearly and as needed.
• Ensures all licensure, certification requirements and competencies are met.

Provides care in an outpatient setting to patients with various types of wounds, from acute to chronic. Wound care includes: hyperbaric oxygen therapy, care of superficial to full thickness wounds, wound packing, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, burns, lacerations, surgical sites, wet/dry compression wrapping, wound/tissue culture or biopsies, Total Contact Casting, wounds that require Negative Pressure Wound Therapy and Cellular Tissue Application.

• Manages assignment of up to 16 patients per day.
• Works closely with providers to establish a plan of care and treatment for patients.
• Assists providers with procedures including, but not limited to bone debridement, hematoma evacuation, grafting, Cellular Tissue application, and tissue biopsies.
• Assists patient in the wound healing process and maintenance.
• Provides quality nursing care based on sound ethical and independent decision making, based on medical protocols.
• Educates patients on wound care and healing, proper nutrition, disease management, health promotion, medications, coping skills, and community resources.
• Provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatments to up to 8 patients per day.
• Accurately documents all assessments, treatments, interventions, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.

Provide care to patients in an inpatient critical care setting. Provides direct patient care to patients of various populations in a busy intensive care environment.

• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care and performed patient education in accordance to unit standards for all patient types and age groups.
• Collaborates with professionals across the organization to formulate an integrated care plan.
• Promotes team environment by effectively identifying needs of other staff and assisting them.
• Continuous bedside monitoring of the patient's vital signs and initiates corrective action whenever the patient displayed adverse symptomatology.
• Follows continuous cardiac and respiratory readings and reports observed changes.
• Administers infusion therapy, including IV fluids, antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and electrolytes.
• Prepares and administers prescribed medications, and reports reactions to medications and treatments.
• Assists treating physicians during examinations, treatments, and procedures, including life-saving situations.
• Analyzed lab results.
• Provided education, information, and emotional support to the patient's family and caregivers.
• Closely collaborates and thoroughly updates ongoing patient status with rounding physician.
• Set up, operate, or monitor invasive equipment and devices, such as endotracheal tube and tracheotomy equipment, mechanical ventilators, catheters, central lines, nasogastric tubes, and orogastric tubes.
• Manage patients' pain relief and sedation by providing pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, monitoring patients' reactions, and modifying as needed.
• Document data related to patients' care, including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes.
• Ensured the safe administration of blood and blood products while monitoring for any adverse reactions.

Provided care to patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. Patient population includes, but is not limited to, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, cerebral vascular accidents, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputations, and orthopedic needs.
