• Vaccine Study Design Project | EPID 600: Principles of Epidemiology | Fall 2025 Designed a formal retrospective cohort study protocol examining the statistical association between the DTaP vaccine and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) utilizing real-world CDC surveillance data. Established precise inclusion and exclusion criteria to mitigate selection bias and evaluated the impact of missing data on study validity. Formulated measures of frequency and association, defining cumulative incidence and relative risk models to analyze longitudinal outcomes across a defined cohort. Evaluated competing study methodologies, analyzing why a retrospective cohort design effectively established a temporal relationship compared to cross-sectional or case-control designs prone to recall bias.
• Food Access & Health Disparities Project | Under Professor Joanna Flynn | May 2025 Investigated systemic barriers within the global food system, analyzing how racial segregation, targeted marketing, and food deserts drive chronic health disparities in Black and Latino communities. Evaluated the limitations of Western nutritional guidelines and calorie-centric models when applied to diverse, holistic, or Indigenous food cultures. Synthesized socioeconomic data, financial constraints, and health literacy metrics to examine contributors to lower diet quality among lower-income occupational social classes. Critiqued modern food production debates, utilizing data to balance the health risks and benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and ultra-processed food availability.
