  • This was a large campus with 12 plants. 12 plant managers and 1 DOMO. This was a high energy plant with an average of 12 first aids daily. Initially upon my arrival our injury rate was 18 recordables a year. When I finally left, I was able to work the recordable injuries down to 5 recordables a year. I was the only Safety personnel on site.
  • Most enthusiastically I was able to build and created a very specific type of confined space entry program. This program has saved many lives and we have had zero injuries in this vessel since it was implemented.

  • My original project for this internship was to map all the confined Spaces in the plant & build a library of Confined Space Reference Sheets. This is a several year project I am excelling at and hopeful to complete by May 10, 2019. I go into the field and locate machinery. I take pictures. Pull the SDSs, use my chemistry background to best determine the most threatening hazard to all workers. I provide fall protection. I have contributed appearance and odor along with a diagram for the confined space. Sometimes there is an available P&ID, most of the time I have to create the vessel, tower, exchanger, drum, and so forth. I have to be 100% correct, there is no room for error as the operators are completely dependent on my accuracy. I work well with all levels of operators. I attend many operator toolbox morning safety meetings. I assist IH with velocity testing, noise plotting and testing and light testing. I am the only MPC employee who assists the field safety auditors from the Texas City Safety Council. I assist in the investigations, uploading the notes and drafting the findings. I perform daily audits in many different areas. I oversee immediate field corrections on all life criticals, reporting to all involved parties and acting as a liaison for MPC. I assist with WSA audits and making continued field correction. I participate in LSA and MESA Hero meetings. I participate in hand-shake meetings. I review daily incident reports. I study MPC policies daily and provide feedback as necessary. I interact with all Project Coordinators, area Safety Representatives and every level of contractor in our plant.
