• Coach new mothers with breastfeeding techniques, postpartum self-care and infant care to promote easier transition into motherhood.
• Work closely with doctors and midwives in coaching pregnant women through childbirth and post-natal recovery.
• Get patient ready for a C-section both scheduled, unscheduled and emergency
• Assign apgars of baby at birth, perform initial head to toe body assessment and vitals of the baby
• Administer medications (Vitamin K, Erythromycin eye ointment) to the baby
• Perform sterile vaginal exams
• Administer medications such as Cytotec, Pitocin, Cervidil, and magnesium sulfate
• Closely monitor pt on magnesium sulfate
• Circulate C-Section cases
• Insert foley catheters, IUPC's and FSE's
• Analyze fetal heart rate and recognize if there is fetal distress
• Keep patient still and calm during epidural insertion
