I have worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse for the past 12 years. I assist Obstetricians and Midwives in bringing life into the world. I care for patients before, during, and after childbirth. My focus is to build a trusting bond between my patient and I so they know my main priority is them and their baby.
I began my Labor and Delivery journey here. I would admit patients, perform vaginal exams, report to the OB, receive orders for induction and give the medication needed. I would analyze fetal heart rate strips as well and contraction patterns, circulate C-section cases both scheduled, unscheduled and emergency, Perform IV insertion, foley catheter insertion, FSE and IUPC insertion as well. Coaching pt how to push during labor and caring for the baby after birth. Assign apgars, perform initial assessment on the baby and give medications to the baby. I would make sure to keep the patient informed of her plan of care at all times.
