My first job was at the Bilingual Learning Center, and I was a sophomore in high school. During this time, I also attended high school virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bilingual Learning Center (BLC) is a bilingual after-school program from kindergarten to 5th grade based in Minnesota. I was a teacher’s assistant, and I worked an entire school year in 2020 and during the summer of 2020 and 2022. My experience working at BLC was great. My role at BLC was interacting with children and helping them understand the activities they had during online school. BLC offers many activities, from Cooking classes to Math, Reading, tutoring, and Karate. I also had to communicate with the children’s parents if they had any questions about the program or what we did in the program and update them on any of our daily tasks. Since this program has a lot of diversity and is bilingual, I often speak Spanish and English fluently. The Bilingual Learning Center is based on teamwork with children, parents, and staff.
