Feral Hog Trapping - I have worked using a combination of bait boards with corn to attract feral hogs to an area. Once there was evidence of hogs around the bait board, I used game cameras to study the behaviors of the pigs and identify specific pigs based on their defining features (size, gender, coloration, and any other defining features). We then used permanent and non-permanent corral traps with remote gate systems to trap the hogs. The hogs are then ethically put down and transported to be weighted, aged, and have tissue samples taken.
I had firearm training with a Federal Game Warden on the Military Base.
Habitat Restoration - I have worked planting tree seedlings in a post forest fire area in order to help retain soil and nutrients important to the surrounding wildlife. Trees were planted along an ephemeral river bed as an effort to stop the flow of soil downhill. A recent wildfire eliminated many trees in the area, and thus the surrounding habitat has been altered. Planting various species of trees allows for new growth and stored nutrients in areas where the wildfire eliminated previous residents.
