I began my undergraduate career before graduating high school. I took numerous college-level classes through the College In The Schools program, which granted undergraduate credits from a high school class taught at a local post-secondary institution's curriculum. I would attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth in fall of 2022, during my senior year of high school, through the Post-Secondary Enrollment Option program, which enabled me to attend UMD the same as any other undergraduate student, but before graduating high school.
I began working shortly after my 14th birthday at the Culver's in the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth, Minnesota. I Worked at Culver's for 3 years, averaging 20 hours per week and mostly working as a drive-thru order-taker. Typical job duties included spot cleaning, order-taking with a POS system, communicating with kitchen staff, preparing desserts and drinks for customers, and handling complaints. I left my job at Culver's to focus on school.
I would pick up my next job with Winter Family Care in May of 2023. I currently work as a Direct Support Professional with WFC, averaging 42 hours per week. Typical job duties include hands-on hygiene maintenance of residents, deescalation, non-verbal communication, medication administration, cleaning, housekeeping, meal-prep, blood-glucose monitoring, vitals monitoring, taking residents on community outings and to medical appointments, and enacting personalized treatment plans to meet a resident's desired progress. As of March 5th, 2024, I still work for WFC.
In August of 2023, I began training with PAVSA (Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault) to act as a volunteer hospital advocate. I finished the training in mid-November, and have taken 2 16 hours shifts each month, totaling to 9 shifts taken as of March 5th, 2024. Each 16 hour shift begins at 4:30 pm and lasts until 8:30 am the next day. While on shift, I would be on call, being contacted by on of the two hospitals in Duluth whenever a patient presented to the ER for sexual assault. As of March 5th, 2024, I still regularly volunteer with PAVSA.
