As maintenance manager my job was to come in before anyone else verify the operational status of the entire fleet if vans for our dsp (47) sprinters Ford and ram cdvs delivery vans I would initially check for new body damage report to owners so the previous driver could be questioned make bags for all vehicles check tires for flats or low tread to order new tires make sure vans are full or bag receives a gas card before going on route after fixing all busted lights replacing all bulbs fixing any loose side or back rails filling Def in diesel sprinters filling air in tires or replacing flats we would verify route count me and dispatch see how many drivers are in take any extra drivers who ever wanted to work could take from the routes with the most stops and rescue slower or other heavy routed drivers the most efficient drivers were guaranteed work while the less efficient were selected to be extras Incase of a dropped route or would give them the decision to help with load out and wait for a flex route opportunity once inside if amazon flagged any safety issues with the van I needed to take care of it if possible if not exchange the van with another road ready vehicle or worst case scenario drop the route due to not having any other road safe vehicles anything we couldn't complete on lot was vented to a nearby maintenance vendor or assigned for a pm with our on lot pm specialists that operated overnight if a tire flat or accident or anything mechanical was to occur to a van while drivers were delivering it was my job to drive out to them and service a tire fix a Wiper blade and get the driver moving again I would even deliver some of their packages to help keep them in the green if necessary amazon give you a 10hr block to complete your route and sometimes it isn't enough so be it maintenance or delivery driving I did it all and after load out I had to update all vehicle findings and work done or soon to be done in the computer all 47 vans had their own individual status pages any vans needed brakes air conditioning service anything we couldn't do on lot with the company provided tools was marked oos and vented vans in service had to be in accurate standing as amazon used the number of usable vans to figure out how many routes to assign to a dsp I did enjoy the job amd team but unfortunately the bosses closed up shop keeping up with the fleet maintenance became too much for them so the dsp closed down now I work with hertz in a similar environment
