At El Monte tower, various responsibilities during my training to become a certified air traffic controller included: authorizing and coordinating aircraft and vehicle movement across the airport ramp, taxiways, and runways. I also operated and controlled the tower's various equipment (radio communication, radar systems, and lighting). I provided separation of up to fifteen aircraft at any given time in our airport's surrounding airspace while managing the timing of departures and arrivals. I was responsible for coordinating and interfacing with adjacent air traffic control facilities. This career demanded extreme attention to detail, ability to work with others, creativity, and quick decision making.
