In my time as a professional worker I have learned many valuable skills that have taught me the value in working hard and making sure that the work I do is reliable and the best I can possibly do. Some of these skills I have learned in trade jobs such as plumbing and construction where I was forced to become a fast learner that can learn on the fly while also being able to do reliable work. In combination with this work experience I have always had a passion for coding and problem solving from a young age, building my own computer and learning Java and C++ via playing around with different mods for games and various softwares such as unity. This desire to learn more about coding languages motivated me to major in computer science at AACC, with intentions to transfer to UMD or another 4 year university to finish my Bachelor’s. These experiences have given me a reliable confidence in my ability to learn new skills and have forged me into the hard worker I am today with a passion and eagerness to learn new skills via an internship.
In the type of construction I do there is no cap on what we do meaning that there isn’t anything we don’t do and anytime we do a job the primary goal is quality. Working in construction has given me a mindset of what it takes to get any given job done properly and efficiently. For example in the time I have worked for Jason(my boss) he has tried many different projects where I have had to watch him problem solve in order to find a reasonable solution giving me a new perspective and appreciation on how much work and time it takes to make something look good while also doing it properly. While I could see myself doing construction for the rest of my life my body does not work well in the heat and a lot of the time construction requires being outside at all times of the year.
Working as a lifeguard gave me skills I still have to this day regarding time management, CPR, vigilance, and social skills. As a lifeguard at Truxten my job was to supervise different pools and talk to various patrons. This job vastly increased my social skills as before I was very introverted and shy but after 2 years of lifeguarding I was forced to develop social skills and become better at getting my purpose of what I’m trying to say across to people. Of all the skills I have developed socialization is one I am most great full for.
