  • Engineer is responsible for the the whole train it's self by operating the locomotives to move the train forward or backwards
  • The engineer is responsible for starting movement and stopping the train with air brakes that are throughout the locomotives and train cars
  • It takes 20 months of on the job training
  • As a Conductor for the BNSF Railway I was required to comply with all safety rules including company and Federal rules and policies
  • Obtain and receive information and act upon oral or written instructions by communication devices such as pagers, radio and telephone
  • Monitor and report on daily work performed
  • Climb on and off equipment, set or release hand brakes, couple and uncouple air hoses between rail cars, remove and replace broken knuckles (75lb railcar connector), ride moving cars by hanging on grab irons, or ladders
  • Observe, interpret and relay hand, lantern, and other signals affecting the movement of the train, judge and control the speed and clearance distance of cars and distinguish among colors and see at night

  • I was required to use a surveying total station to lay out horizontal alignment control to prepare roads for construction
  • Horizontal control, existing of laying out centerline for curves and tangents
  • Also used leveling transit to take elevations that are existing of ground and setting slope stakes to a road way plain elevations
  • These stakes are set out per one hundred feet until end of the road that is being constructed
  • As a Grade Checker I worked directly with operators on a motor grader and scraper
  • I used the slope stake elevations by shooting either a cut or a fill for the heavy equipment operators to build each one hundredth foot intervals to finish grade elevation until construction was completed to end of project
  • Observed heavy equipment operators in all activities to verify conformance to stake references and notified equipment operators and supervisors of progress
  • I am required to read road maps and various blue prints to ensure each job is started correctly and operating smoothly from the engineering level

  • As Lead Supervisor for Ma Deatley Pipe crew I had read and communicate Specs and blueprints to which pertain to everyday activities on the job site
  • Had to calculate needs on 5000 feet of storm sewer, estimate how many crew members were needed and which types of tools needed on an everyday basis
  • As a crew we Put in all types of pipe including 18 inch by 8 feet long concrete storm sewer pipe
  • While using a laser level and packing the sides with a whacker and a walk-behind compactor to obtain a 95% compaction
  • Also put in approach pipe all different sizes ranging from 10 inches to 5 feet round pipe while doing this using the same type of compactors to which a 95% compaction was achieved
  • Installed 30 feet by 100 foot steel animal crossings using bobcats, mini excavators to back fill, and using a small steel drum sheep foot packer to achieve compaction
  • Also laid brick retaining walls around animal crossing and back filled behind using bobcats, mini excavators, and packers
  • Used all types of hand tools, power tools, and air tools
