Work History

AmeriCorps Member

Efrain Ramirez
Washington, DC
09.2022 - 09.2023

As a Community School Program member I was in charge of various tasks. Such were: 1) Book pantry orders for the week after for some students (8 students and 2 extra just in case) in the school Cardozo Education Campus; 2) update the students information regarding when I booked the pantry orders and on what date they were supposed to receive it. To update their information I had to log in the platform that AmeriCorps had designated for students in their program, make a new collection, search the students by name (last name first, then first name, i.e. Rodriguez, Manuel), then add the students, and then respond a survey on what are the students receiving and how (in school, in their house, parents pick it up, etc.); 3) In the designated date of the shipping of the pantry orders, I had to go to the AmeriCorps pantry, pick up the orders that had the students' last name on them, put them in a cart, and deliver them to the Cardozo Education Campus where a teacher received me in the parking lot of the school to deliver the pantry orders.

Now, as an AmeriCorps member, I had other tasks. One of them was to respond emails regarding my Supervisor (Efrain) and/or Site Supervisor (Jamie), which both tasked me with different responsibilities, and my Site Supervisor had me do the things mentioned previously. Efrain on the other hand, tasked me with organizing, categorizing, and counting the clothes in the closet of the job called "Esra's Closet." This closet was used to store clothes that were to be used in professional settings, and donate clothes that were more casual. I became the manager of that closet for a whole year, although I was not alone in the task, other coworkers helped me near the end of the year with the counting and organization of the clothes.

Efrain tasked me with helping other Site Supervisors too, because as AmeriCorps members, we were meant to help everyone in the worksite. I helped organize workshops for the youth that lived mainly in Columbia Heights (art workshops, tech workshops, job workshops, etc.), activities such as Black History Month, and the Students Day. Also, I helped with the Summer Program for Elementary School that other two Site supervisors organized. I stayed the entire summer with them; I taught lessons to the kids that were part of different lesson plans developed by the Site Supervisors, took the kids out to the park as mandated by the Site Supervisors due to the different activities, and helped organize the classroom everyday both when the day starts and when it finishes.
