• Staff Mentorship: Coaching newer special education teachers and coordinating the duties of paraprofessionals and aides.
• Compliance & Advocacy: Monitoring paperwork, conducting file audits, ensuring legal timeframes are met, and representing the school during IEP meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education & License: A minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education with an active special education teaching license.
• Experience: Typically requires 2+ years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• Skills: Strong working knowledge of IDEA, crisis intervention strategies, and excellent adult communication skills.

Core Classroom Duties

• Lesson Planning & Delivery: Prepare and teach engaging, differentiated math lessons aligned with state and national standards.
• Assessments: Design and administer quizzes, tests, and projects to evaluate student comprehension.
• Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and implement Response to Intervention (RTI) strategies to support both struggling learners and advanced students.
• Student Progress Tracking: Provide individualized support, analyze performance metrics, and conduct parent-teacher conferences.

Math Department Leadership Duties

• Curriculum Development: Review, update, and align the mathematics scope and sequence across grade levels or courses.
• Faculty Mentorship & Coaching: Observe peer teachers, model effective instructional practices, and facilitate collaborative planning sessions.
• Data-Driven Instruction: Lead data meetings to review standardized testing and formative assessment results; adjust departmental goals accordingly.
• Resource & Budget Management: Oversee the department's inventory of math manipulatives, textbooks, and software, making recommendations for resource purchasing.
• Professional Development: Organize or lead departmental workshops on new teaching strategies, grading policies, or technological tools.

Core Intervention Models

• Push-In Support: The Lead Math Teacher or interventionist assists within the general education classroom during the math block, supporting small groups or individual students.
• Math Workshop/Rotations: Students rotate through stations (e.g., hands-on activities, digital practice, and teacher-led small groups) for targeted remediation.

Research-Based Strategies

• Explicit Instruction: Follow a structured "I do, We do, You do" gradual release model to demonstrate problem-solving steps.
• Visual & Concrete Models: Utilize manipulatives like algebra tiles, number lines, and geometric models to bridge abstract concepts.
• Data-Driven Diagnostics: Utilize formative assessments and screeners to diagnose specific skill gaps and dynamically adjust small-group instruction.

• Successfully supported and established school’s counseling program
• Developed activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program

• IEP Management: Drafting, updating, and facilitating IEP goals, tracking progress data, and ensuring legally compliant accommodations.
• Lesson Adaptation: Modifying general education core subjects (math, English, etc.) or life skills curricula to match each student's unique learning profile.
• Collaboration: Partnering closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and support specialists to ensure a cohesive learning environment.
• Behavior & Social Support: Teaching emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and coping skills during a transitional age.

Key Focus Areas

• Reading & Comprehension: Teaching students to analyze novels, poetry, and essays, while building vocabulary and extracting meaning from texts.
• Writing & Composition: Guiding students through the writing process (brainstorming, drafting, and editing) to craft essays, creative stories, and research papers.
• Speaking & Listening: Fostering communication skills through class discussions, debates, and presentations.

Daily Responsibilities

• Lesson Planning: Designing engaging curricula that align with state or national education standards.
• Assessment: Grading assignments, writing rubrics, and evaluating reading comprehension to track student progress.
• Differentiation: Adapting lessons to support diverse learners with varying reading levels and language proficiencies.
