• Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Angela Acord. I recently completed a 17-year career with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). I was working as a Corrections Shift Supervisor – I (Sergeant) for the final 10 years of my employment with MDOC. I worked in this capacity from November 2014 to December 2024 at two facilities, Gus Harrison Correctional Facility in Adrian, MI and Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson, MI. I am writing to inquire about the vacant position recently posted.
• Prior to working as a Sergeant, I was employed at the Saginaw Correctional Facility and the Macomb Correctional Facility as both a Corrections Officer and as a Resident Unit Officer. I worked as a resident unit officer at both prisons in housing units that held offenders being treated by various Michigan Department of Corrections Mental Health Programs: Crisis Stabilization Program, Acute Care, Rehabilitative Treatment Services, Residential Treatment Program, and Outpatient Services. I began my Michigan Department of Corrections career at the now closed Standish Maximum Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer (E9) for over a year and a half. I most recently attended Delta College and completed 7 semester credits toward a criminal justice associate degree. I have also attended Kirtland Community College for 21 semester credits with a major course of study in Criminal Justice. I previously attended Baker College for a total of 39 credits toward my Nursing Degree. I will be returning to college this fall term to attend Jackson College to pursue a degree in Social Work. I have worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections for over 9 years. During that time I have gained experience working with every security classification level offender and institution the Department houses. I have managed activities of secure level I, medium custody, closed custody, maximum security, and mental health focused housing units at multiple facilities in my career. I have an extensive work history in private mental health care facilities prior to working for the Michigan Department of Corrections. My experience in the Department and my ability to communicate with diverse offender populations and employee groups will allow me to transition quickly to the operations at Cotton Facility. I believe my education, formal training, and professionalism give me the foundation to be an asset at your facility.
