Extremely eager college student on the pre-vet track who values all clients, patients, and coworkers to ensure top notch productivity. A very dedicated candidate who learns from mistakes, and is excited to learn as much as possible. Reliable and more than happy to help in any situation, and always wants feedback on how to improve. Has seen hundreds of scenarios that call for different procedures each time for only being 18 years old.
When I was 2 years old, I began working with horses. When I was 7 years old, I got my own horse. I had a personal trainer who not only helped me become a better rider, but also spent a lot of time educating me on horses as a whole. Whenever the equine vet or ferrier came, I was there to watch and ask lots of questions. In 2019 my horse had to leave us because of lung and breathing issues. I tried every single treatment I could, and was there with her as she was euthanized by the vet and crossed the bridge into Heaven.
Growing up, all throughout my youth I spent an awful lot of time watching AnimalPlanet where Dr. Jeff Young was featured on his show "Dr. Jeff Rocky Mountain Vet". I first met him when I was 9 years old, and when I was 13 I began job shadowing and volunteering at his clinic for a few weeks in the summer. I worked directly under him and with his other veterinarians throughout the entire day to learn as much as I could. All my life I have been raised by a very successful business owner and, therefore, I have been taught from a very young age how to initiate myself with those above me, and work for what I have, such as the opportunity to work with Dr. Jeff. Each summer I have been able to return to his clinic and have more knowledge than the year before, and have slowly acquired more skills throughout the years to make myself more valuable to those I am working with.
In 2021, I got my first job at a local vet clinic. Working directly alongside Dr. Tammy Stevenson, Dr. Kathryn Franz, certified technicians, and other assistants, and this opportunity has by far been the biggest boost to my knowledge and future career. There, I have worked full time over the summer, everyday after school, and anytime my schedule has accommodated. I have spent a lot of time asking questions and looking over their shoulders in order to grow my knowledge to its fullest potential. I have learned endless skills there, and as the veterinarian has known that my goal has always been to attend vet school at the same place she did, she has spent the last 3 years preparing me the best she could to tackle the same obstacles as she once did.
Although I will be moving to Ames this fall and attempting to be accepted into the vet program at Iowa State University, I have never stopped looking for more opportunities. In July of 2024 I will be visiting an exotic rehabilitation and release center in Heredia, Costa Rica. I also hope for the opportunity to work at Somerset Veterinary Clinic in order to further expand my knowledge and be as useful to their staff as I can.
