Received "Knight Of The Month" a few times as well as my immediate family receiving "Family Of The Year" for our organizing a charity dinner at church that raised money for a medical mission trip to Bolivia. We put that dinner on for 25 years. We made and served 300 lbs. of Italian sausage each year, that is from a family recipe that has been handed down for generations.

Me and Racing

  • I first started loving auto racing at a very young age. It started from going to watch my Uncle Bill Catania race a limited late model stock car at a few tracks in Western New York and Pennsylvania. However, I give my dad full credit for introducing me to Indy Car and the Indianapolis 500. We'd attend early mass on Sunday on Memorial Day weekend, and then go straight home to watch pre race coverage, and the race. My first driver I met was Tom Sneva in 1983 at a Texaco Station in Oklahoma City on his post 500 win publicity tour. My first 500 I attended was however not until 2001. This year will by my 15th. While attending broadcasting school in 2009 to 2010, one of my final projects was to do a 10 minute documentary on any subject. I chose to do it on the several connections between my home state of Oklahoma and the famed Indy 500. I actually had too much information to fit into that 10 minutes, and because I'm always doing research on the 500, and Indy Car in general, I've actually learned of many more connections since then. One of which was my grandfather Frank who used to sell tires to John S. Zink in Tulsa. I'd love to work in the sport of racing to some extent, or work at the Speedway Museum and meet people who share my passion, and are willing to learn more about the race that they might not already know. I'd also love to write a book on the same topic as my documentary including the new information I've acquired since that project. I once jokingly told Donald Davidson that had I followed high school the way I follow racing, I might've been valedictorian. I guess it's much easier to retain information when it interests you.
