Operated a project to convert gendered bathrooms in the science complex building in Earlham College into a gender neutral one.
Drew a floor sketch of the current bathroom using a computer-aided design software to identify the problems with it.
Built a scale model for both current and prospective bathrooms to visualize the change that is required to solve the problems.
Researched the Americans with Disabilities Act standards on bathrooms, and the building codes of the county, state, and the Federal government to make sure that the bathrooms are accessible and compliant with the laws.
Discussed what is needed to make the gender-neutral bathroom a comfortable space.
Presented the new bathroom designs to the science division faculty members, and then to the whole school in a faculty meeting, and the school exposition, respectively.
Gained skills to think in an interdisciplinary way between social issues and engineering to achieve that, and earned hands-on experience to utilize knowledge on social issues regarding gender in making real-life scenes
