Why I chose Vet Tech

My interests are working with any kind of animal. This is why I am attending Iowa Lakes Community College for the 2-year Veterinary Technician program. I have decided I want to start out my 2 years here close to home and work at a local vet clinc. And there is a chance where I would like to continue to Iowa State to complete 4 years or more to become a full veterinarian.

Interests

My interests are working outside, being around animals, showing horses and sheep at the county and local fairs.

Volunteer Work/Competitions

When I attended Sioux Central High School in Sioux Rapids IA, in  my 4 years of high school I have participated in FFA and volunteering for local people and just for the community. Such as doing feed the farmers during harvest season, thats where we all prepared sack lunches for the farmers that came to the elevators. It was a appreciation to those who work hard. Not only that, I have volunteered at the Clay County Fair with helping at Grandpas Barn and interacting with people, especially the little kids. Teaching them new things about animals and letting them interact with such!

For the competion aspects, I practically only participated in the Veterinary Science, competing against hundreds of other FFA members in the state. A a indivdual , I placed 7th in the state, which all in all I was shocked but also not because I knew I studied hard and I knew what I was learning about! That's why I only stuck with what I knew best!

Not having as many jobs as expected

The reason why I don't have much job experience is because I grew up on a farm where I basically worked on my whole life. From taking care of cattle and horses to helping in the fields during planting and harvest seasons.

Internship learning

For interning at a local vet clinc, I am wanting to learn all the basics it takes to learn how to be a Veterinary Technican. I want to be able to do hands on and getting to interact with all the customers and the people in the vet clinic. I look forward to being in the clinic over the course of my summer, being and doing what I want to do in my future!
