Summary

My achievements as a teacher assistant reflect my commitment to supporting both students and the classroom environment. I have helped create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to learn. By building strong relationships with students, including those with diverse backgrounds and special needs, I have been able to support their social, emotional, and academic growth. I have also assisted in implementing lesson plans and activities that engage students and make learning enjoyable, while reinforcing the teacher’s goals.

In addition, I have contributed to effective classroom management by helping maintain structure, guiding student behavior, and supporting smooth daily routines such as transitions, snack time, and group activities. I have worked collaboratively with the lead teacher and other staff members, showing reliability and a strong willingness to help wherever needed. I have also improved my communication skills when interacting with both students and adults, which has helped strengthen teamwork and classroom success.

My strengths as a teacher assistant include patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong relationships with young children. I am able to stay calm and supportive when students are struggling, which helps create a safe and comfortable learning environment. I also communicate clearly and adjust my language to meet the needs of different learners, including those with diverse cultural backgrounds or special needs. In addition, I am flexible and able to adapt when classroom plans change, and I work well as part of a team by supporting the lead teacher and helping the classroom run smoothly.

At the same time, there are areas I am continuing to improve. I sometimes take on too much responsibility instead of asking for help or delegating tasks, which can become overwhelming. I am also working on building more confidence in classroom management, especially when it comes to enforcing rules and redirecting behavior. During busy parts of the day, such as transitions, I am improving my time management and organization skills. I am also learning how to better balance giving individual attention to students while still monitoring the entire class. Finally, I recognize that the role can be emotionally demanding, so I am working on maintaining healthy boundaries and practicing self-care to stay effective in my role.

Instructions for Filling in Resume Template

  • 1. When you open the template the FIRST TIME, please be sure to ‘save as’ an new file – ex: sills initial resume – so that you can work within it without losing the original file (for future use).
  • 2. Highlight EACH LINE and once highlighted – just type your own information into it
  • 3. Highlight each line of the resume, putting your specific information onto your ‘initial resume draft.’
  • 4. Be sure to give accurate dates for everything – there is no GUESS WORK on effective resumes – Remember – THEY WILL CHECK.
  • 5. If there is a heading that you do not have experience in, just delete the whole section. Internships, for example – not every program requires them – and not every student takes advantage of them.
  • 6. Pay close attention to the ‘Volunteer Experience’ section. Volunteering can sometimes act as a “tie-breaker” among two similar resumes. Prospective employers want to know that their prospective candidates are “invested in their communities” and are “team players.”
  • 7. Once all the information has been put into the resume template, save it and have it available for a final review on December 10, 2020, during the workshop portion of the Resume Presentation.
  • 8. If you have any questions at all – please do not hesitate to email Renee Sills – Career Services – sills@ecc.edu
