Accomplishments

I am a retired Public Works employee with the City of Hamilton! Ohio retiring honorably in 2015 after nearly 30 years of service. I was a dedicated and highly respected hardworking employee. I prided myself on being a quick learner who refused to be outworked by any coworkers no matter how young they were or how seasoned they were. I moved up the ranks very quickly from a garbage collector to a Crew leader in as short a period of time as anyone the city had ever had. I was appointed the Crew Leader at a young age where by my own skill and determination turned a handful of misfits into a team. Men who were thrust into jobs they hadn’t originally signed up for looked to me for guidance.. and I gave it a full measure without any prodding from above except for the line I was given by Marvin Cook, who had hired me.. he said “you don’t work for me.. you work for them.”.. meaning the citizens of Hamilton. I lived that.

I was the key instrument in overhauling Hamilton’s snow removal operations, personally rewriting defunct routes. When I became crew leader over the Street Cleaning Department, I rewrote every mowing route, and was a key cog in the city becoming a member of Tree City USA. In rewriting the mowing operations I took it upon myself to double the city’s equipment, therefore capabilities within weeks of accepting that responsibility. I enhanced the street sweeping, Motrin, alley trimming, alley sweeping, and beautification efforts by requiring my men to keep accurate maps of the routes I had personally rewritten. I was also a skilled heavy equipment operator determined to be the best the city had ever had. Although I wasn’t the best.. I surely wanted to be. Everyone who worked with me was always glad they did because of dedication, competence and infectious personality. There’s probably more so don’t be afraid to ask.

Certification

I have a forklift operator’s license and a class A CDL.

Additional Information

I have worked ever since I was a paperboy with the local JournalNews, including being recognized as working during the terrible blizzard of 1977. From there I was a hardworking busboy for Eaton Manor, then a valued employee for McDonald’s where my work ethic showed to management. Within short time I was asked to be a manager, which I declined. I did, however accept the position of night manager(janitor) on weekends, in addition to opening up the store alone in the grill area. I was instrumental when McDonalds introduced biscuit items to the menu in 1986. In 1987 my high score on the civil service test got me hired on with the City of Hamilton! which I documented above. Since retiring I’ve worked at Kohl’s as a janitor, at Amazon as a forklift operator, at FedEx emptying trucks, even being asked to operate the trucks themselves during switchovers. I left these jobs to get a higher paying job at Essity, only leaving there after a brief stint due to working 21 straight days of doubles next to workers who cursed incessantly and very loudly or simply didn’t hold up their end of the bargain in their responsibilities. Instead of tattletelling to management about the effects this had on my PTSD, I simply left.. it’s a decision I regret immensely because I’m better than that. I want to prove that was a fluke and that PTSD cannot stop me.. nor any other damned thing I encounter. Besides that, I’m funny, honest, peaceful and quite pleasant!! 😉☺️😜😇🤭
