I fell in love with teaching many years ago, and it is a lifelong goal and commitment to see that every student has access to the learning style that works for them. This is why Universally Designed Learning practices are important. These practices provide flexibility in providing tools and learning strategies so that all children can learn in the way that best fits their needs. It is a goal to continue to implement these practices so that all students in the classroom can reach their full potential.
On the weekends I currently watch an adult female with cognitive delays. I pick her up on Fridays and she sleeps at my house Friday and Saturday nights, then I take her back home on Sunday afternoons.
My duties include helping her with daily hygiene and daily tasks such as helping wash her clothing and making her bed. I also take her out in the community, including trips to the grocery store. She also likes to do crafts and play games.
At Sheboygan Christian School I was responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans for preschool children. I was responsible for creating an age-appropriate play-based curriculum in order to provide students with foundational academic skills such as counting, and recognizing their name in print. We also worked on basic social/emotional development and problem solving skills.
