Recently graduated with an Agricultural Business degree, with a focus in plant science. Currently developing an extension-based skill set through a 4-H program assistant position. In preparation for an education-based career in horticulture. Interested in learning as much as possible, and applying those skills in the field to help further the future of agriculture. Experience working with greenhouse management and landscaping over the past three years. Looking for any way to further my experience and share skills learned with others.
Over the last year, working with different 4-H project groups, clubs, and events has been the main focus. Along with assisting 4-H agents with extra workloads, social media, and outreach design. Outside of the 4-H workload, I occasionally help with the Master Gardeners by setting up for meetings, assisting with the intern program, and participating in local events when available. Developing skills such as communication, program enhancement and development, and problem-solving that assist with everyday tasks.
Over the summer, working under Maureen Theisen consisted of focus on four greenhouses located at the station. These were each delegated as a propagation house, head house (where seeds were started), holding house (for plants to be saved for the plant sale), and the shade house(plants adjust to the outdoor climate). Everyday tasks included greenhouse checks in the morning and after lunch, planting seeds or cuttings, transplanting multiple plants, managing crew that helped with greenhouses, and staying on track for plant sale.
Over the summer, interned under Jason Stagg as the LNLA intern. The internship consisted of learning landscape care, greenhouse management, and conducting a research project. Landscape tasks included clean up from a hurricane, planting, irrigation, maintenance, mechanical work, research, plant care, and identification of pests, plant issues, and more. Greenhouse tasks were second focus on the job list and consisted of watering, planting seeds, transplanting, identify plant issues, and organizing the head house and greenhouse for proficiency.
