As a rehab assistant I was charged with the responsibility of developing the framework in which the senior residents would follow in keeping with the demands of physical activity
I managed to include two days in the week whereby the residents would be involved in group therapy sessions and gentle physical activities
We managed to get in a dance teacher too
I managed to incorporate targeted assessments and come up with exercise regimens that were tailored to meet the needs of the residents
It led to a happier healthier group and they looked forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays
I particularly remember a senior resident who had served in the Second World War initially gloomy most of the day and reluctant to take part in the group therapy sessions, eventually becoming very engaged and confiding in me that she felt stronger after the therapy sessions.
