Work History

Graduate Student Fellow

Schatz Energy Research Center
08.2023 - Current
  • Marine biologist advising on offshore wind energy research projects
  • Used skeletal measurements and regression modeling to estimate the thrust force of 31 cetacean species, including humpback and killer whale
  • Conducts literature review and interviews, and communicates with entanglement experts to study how offshore wind energy contributes to cetacean, pinniped, and sea turtle entanglement. Advises the development of a sensor system to detect these entanglements
  • Mentored undergraduate students for a literature review on the effects of offshore wind energy on salmon migration

Biologist II

AECOM
01.2019 - 06.2023
  • Conducted endangered species surveys and lead field crews to protect species during infrastructure development and facilitate habitat restoration
  • Composed official environmental documents, such as Biological Assessments, environmental permit applications, and annual monitoring reports
  • Worked with diverse stakeholders such as agencies and construction crews to achieve environmental compliance

Biological Science Technician

US Forest Service, Lincoln National Forest
07.2018 - 11.2018
  • Surveyed harsh desert habitats for Mexican free-tailed bats, Mexican spotted owl, and an undescribed species of amphipod, among other species of interest
  • Contributed to research of undescribed species of amphipod through field surveys, collection, and preparation for genetic sampling
  • Performed maintenance on water and fencing infrastructure intended to rehabilitate local mule deer and elk population

Intern

Carlson Lab (UC Berkeley)
01.2018 - 05.2018
  • Analyzed and cataloged over 500 camera trap videos weekly, identifying species and behaviors observed

Research Apprentice

Brashares Group (UC Berkeley)
02.2016 - 01.2017
  • Assisted with PhD projects on the impacts of fences to large mammal movement and livestock depredation
  • Analyzed and cataloged over 1000 camera trap photos and videos weekly
  • Identified species, number, and condition of numerous northern California fauna
