Summary

A professional technician of about 12 years. Experienced working on a wide variety of equipment and electrical signaling and data systems. I can provide creative custom solutions, both in concept and in execution, using in depth knowledge of electrical laws and concepts. I go out of my way to have a very thorough understanding of the systems I work with. My goal is to find a solution and understand exactly why it worked, and carry that knowledge with me to try to predict and prevent problems in the future. I rely on the application of theory to understand something new when I encounter it. Details are important to me and matter in this line of work, and this has been a great strength to me in my career. If given the choice I will take my time to get it right the first time. I have the perseverance to chase down stubborn of complex problems. I take great pride in my work because it represents me and how I spend my time. It's an extension of my character that matters deeply to me.

Accomplishments

  • 2023 City of Greensboro Employee Innovation Award Participant

- I designed and built a custom cabling system. It's used as a mobile harness to power and drive 16 ohm speakers on the pool deck. I built it as a back-up system for our in-deck circuits. There are usually 8 or 10 lanes in a competitive pool, each lane has a starting block, each starting block houses a speaker. The speakers are used by the officials to talk to the swimmers and start a race with a tone. We have in-deck circuits but if there is a problem with them, it is not something that is repaired quickly. This is a modular system, one module for the odd number lanes, and another module for the even number lanes. The two are daisy chained together to build a cable to length for the number of lanes in use. As long as the modules are connected in alternating fashion, the end result is two separate parallel circuits. This splits the odd and even lanes on separate channels, so there is no way to mis-load or otherwise damage the amplifier. When assembled it is identical to Swiss wiring specs. This harness fills a hole in the Swiss Timing lineup of products. I sent pictures to the Canadian distributor for Swiss Timing equipment, who comes to GAC about once a year. He was thrilled with the solution, and outside of work I built and sold him two units around Christmas. I may have other interested parties so this has led me down the path of investigating patent and business opportunities. I did not win the award for the city but I am extremely proud of the product because it is simple, creative, and clever in ways that might be overlooked. It is my industrious contribution to the swimming world.
